How to manage stock across more than one warehouse

· 4 min read

Rule 1: every location gets a name

Give each shop, godown or shelf area a name in your system. A location that is not recorded is a place where stock disappears.

Rule 2: receive into a specific place

When goods arrive, say where they were put. Receiving into a default location and moving it later is how counts drift.

Rule 3: sell from a specific place

Every sale should come from one location. If the shop sells something that is in the godown, record the movement first or sell from the godown.

Rule 4: adjust with a reason

Count, and where the system and the shelf disagree, record an adjustment with a reason such as damage, loss or counting error. Over time the reasons show you where the problem is.

Rule 5: look at totals and locations

You need both views: the total you own for purchasing decisions, and the per-location figure for fulfilling orders. NEXTOREx keeps stock per warehouse and can show it across all of them.
